Haiya commends NRFA for Top 4 bonanza

FAM president has hailed the Northern Region Football Association for the annual top 4 bonanza which is aimed at giving the regional champions a sendoff to the Super League.

Haiya made the remarks on Sunday when he attended this year event at Karonga stadium in Karonga.

He said: “The purpose of the tournament is to help prepare the region’s promoted candidate to the topflight division- the TNM Super League- in this case; Baka City of Karonga, for life in the elite league. It is pleasing to note that due to such strategies, no team from the region was relegated during the 2023 TNM Super League season.

“I am grateful for the passion and dedication shown by all teams that took part. Special thanks to the NRFA for being proactive in ensuring that its affiliates are up to the task when promoted to the Super League of Malawi.”

Haiya made a personal donation of K5 million towards the tournament while Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda contributed K 2 million.

Iponga FC won the four-team event after beating  Super League bond Baka City  3-2 in the final.

NRFA also held  end of season awards where FAM presented K5 million to Baka City as subvention for Super League promotion.
