Four Derbies Light Up Match Week 7 of NBM Women’s Premiership

The NBM Women’s Premiership enters an exciting phase this weekend with Match Week 7 featuring four city derbies, led by the Blantyre Derby between Mighty Wanderers Queens and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women.

At the center of attention will be the Lilongwe City Derby, where log leaders Silver Strikers Ladies will take on Civil Service Women at Silver Stadium on Sunday at 14h30.

All eyes will be on 7th-placed Civil Service Women to see if they can become the first team to halt Silver Strikers Ladies’ 100% winning record. The Bankers currently top the table with 18 points, five clear of Ascent Soccer, who sit in second place.

Down south, the Blantyre City Derby will see 3rd-placed Mighty Wanderers Queens (12 points) host 5th-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women (10 points) at Mpira Stadium, also on Sunday at 14h30.

Both sides will be seeking bragging rights and crucial points to keep pace with the league’s top contenders.

The Northern Region will also witness two exciting fixtures. At Mzuzu Stadium, the city derby kicks off on Sunday morning at 10h00, featuring bottom-placed Topik Academy (yet to register a point) against 9th-placed MK Academy Women (2 points) — both sides desperately searching for their first win of the campaign.

On Saturday, Ascent Soccer will host fellow Lilongwe rivals MDF Lionesses at Ascent Ground from 14h30, with the visitors currently sitting 4th on 11 points and looking to close the gap on the leaders.

Completing the weekend’s action, 6th-placed Kukoma Ntopwa Women (9 points) will make the long trip from Blantyre to Mzuzu to face Moyale Sisters in a Sunday morning fixture at 10h00.

The excitement will continue into the Mothers’ Day holiday on October 15, when Match Week 8 unfolds with another set of mouthwatering fixtures.

Leaders Silver Strikers Ladies will travel to Blantyre for a high-profile clash against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women at Mpira Stadium (14h30), while Ascent Soccer will be on the road to Mzuzu Stadium to face Moyale Sisters (14h30).

Earlier that day, MK Academy will host Mighty Wanderers Queens at 11h00, Civil Service Women will visit Kukoma Ntopwa Women (10h00), and MDF Lionesses will play Topik Academy at Champion Stadium (10h00).

As the first round of the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership nears its conclusion, the race remains tight at both ends of the table.
The top sides cannot afford to drop points, while the bottom three continue their battle to avoid relegation in Malawi’s historic top-tier women’s football league.
