FIFA has appointed three Malawian referees to officiate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Central African Republic and Mali.
Communication from FIFA States that Malawi’s Godfrey Phillip Nkahkananga will take charge as the center referee, assisted by Pondamali Tembo and Clemence Kanduku the match is scheduled for 24th March 2025 in Casablanca, Morocco.
In a related development, CAF has also appointed Martha Nyekanyeka as referee’s assessor for FIFA U17 Women’s qualifier between Congo DR and Benin, played at the Complexe Omnisport’s Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on 16 March 2025 at 15:30 hrs.
Speaking on the appointments, FAM Referees Manager Duncan Lengani said these appointments will inspire many referees.
“The appointments not only boost the country’s football reputation but also provides valuable experience and exposure for the referees”
“This development can have a positive impact on the overall quality of football in Malawi and inspire future generations of referees and players as we transform the game”. He said.
