FDH final to stream globally on FIFA+

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that the 2022 FDH Bank Cup final between Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves and Nyasa Big Bullets will be streamed globally live on FIFA+.

Earlier this month, FAM signed a digital media rights agreement with the FIFA owned Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to stream local games thereby taking the game to the global audience.

Today’s match at  the Kamuzu Stadum this afternoon will be the first one to be streamed on the platform after successful technical tests were conducted between the local producer, Mibawa Studios and FIFA+ technical partner, MyCujoo.

FAM Marketing and Broadcasting Manager, Tulipo Mwenelupembe said the deal will unlock numerous opportunities to develop and commercialise the game.

“We are extremely excited about this new partnership which will help us unveil the  chances of developing and commercialising  the game. In the past 12 months, FAM started implementing strategies to optimize broadcasting rights to benefit the teams. We have scaled up our pay channel to 2 Direct-To-Home (DTH) platforms thus Azam and Zuku TV, laid a foundation for Free-To-Air TV and finally we are ending the season by brining  on board an OTT platform therefore taking the game closer to the fans.”

“In addition to the FDH Bank Cup, FIFA+ through the local producer will produce and stream all matches of this season’s Airtel Top 8. With this partnership, we are expecting to produce and live stream all matches of this season’s Airtel Top 8 therefore making it the first local tournament to have matches produced and broadcast live on DTH, FTA and OTT. We will use this as a learning process as we plan to produce over 300 matches of the TNM Super League, FDH Bank Cup, Airtel Top 8 and FAM Women’s Championship in the 2023 season. This will give tremendous value to our competition sponsors and partners,” said Mwenelupembe.

FIFA+ is a new streaming platform, where users can watch or stream thousands of live matches per month. It superserves soccer fans not only by drawing on Fifa’s vast match archive but also provides users with original content and a sprawling live offering. It can be accessed online via any internet browser on https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/. Alternatively, it can be downloaded for iOS devices through the App Store or Android on Google Play.
