FAM to hold two CAF B Coaching courses

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is this year set to hold two CAF B Coaching courses to meet the growing demand for necessary credentials for coaches at elite level.

All along FAM has been holding one CAF B course per year but according to Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda they have decided to hold two courses due the huge demand

A total of 103 coaches, 87 local and 16 foreign applied for the CAF B coaching course,  Malawians and 16 foreign coaches from Zimbabwe and South Africa, applied for the course which FAM advertised  earlier this year.

“We have decided to do two cohorts so that we don’t ask coaches again to apply for the CAF B coaching course. We followed a process involving the Coaches’ Association office, the technical office, to select the participants,” Kumwenda said.

“The selection process also respected out commitment to gender inclusion ensuring that at least at least 25% of the participants should be women. We have seven women in cohort one, and others will participate in cohort two,” Kumwenda added.

Cohort 1 will commence on May 12, 2025, and run until August 18, 2025, while Cohort 2 is set to begin on September 13, 2025, and conclude on January 18, 2026. The three-module course will be done at Mpira Hotel, where participants will also be accommodated.

The curse attracts a fee of K200,000.00 for local and USD 200 for coaches.

Kumwenda added that FAM is focused on enhancing coaching standards across the country.

“We are working towards introducing CAF A coaching courses in Malawi by 2027. This will allow us to amend our club licensing regulations, which currently permit only CAF B coaches to handle Super League teams.

“FAM believes that by the end of 2025, Malawi will have a more competent pool of coaches capable of improving football standards at the elite level.  Kumwenda believes that the two cohorts will play a crucial role in bridging the coaching gap and ensuring the growth of professional football in the country,” he said.
