The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering local coaches with the knowledge and skills required to effectively execute their roles in developing football across the country.
Speaking on Monday during the opening ceremony of the CAF C Coaching Course at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, FAM first Vice President Christopher Madalitso Kuyera emphasized the importance of investing in grassroots coaching education.
“The message is clear from now onwards. Our coaches must take these courses seriously and apply the knowledge they gain here in their day-to-day coaching. This is the foundation of football development,” Kuyera said.
He also urged the coaches to care for the young players they mentor with the same dedication they would give their own children.
“They need to treat these children as their own. When training them, think: if these were my children under someone else’s care, how would I want them to be treated?” Kuyera emphasized.
The FAM Veep further challenged participants to view the CAF C Licence as just the beginning of their coaching journey.
“CAF C is not the end. I encouraged them to aim higher — to pursue CAF A and B licences, and even enhance their academic qualifications. After their coaching careers, they should be able to contribute to football in other ways as well.”
One of the country’s renowned Coach Educators, McNerbet Kadzuwa, echoed Kuyera’s sentiments and urged the participants to maintain discipline and deliver quality results once they graduate.
“This course is vital when you consider the calibre of coaches we have here. They are already making a difference at their clubs and working hard to promote football from the grassroots,” Kadzuwa said.
“They must remain disciplined, not only for the success of their teams but also because they are role models for the players they coach.”
The course is being facilitated by a team of high-profile instructors including Kenelwe Mathibela, a former Banyana Banyana captain and now FIFA/CAF Delivery Manager, FIFA/CAF Coach Educator Zuneid Mall, and former FAM Technical Director John Kaputa.
Among the 30 participants enrolled in the course are former Malawi internationals Fisher Kondowe, Raquib Milanzi, and Yamikani Fodya, whose transition into coaching is seen as a positive step in enhancing local football expertise.
