FAM Pledges support for the NWFA Committee

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has guaranteed the newly elected National Women’s Football Association Committee of the association’s support towards the development of women’s football in the country.

FAM President Walter Nyamilandu made the pledge at Mpira Palace on Sunday morning when he opened a day-long orientation session for the Committee.

Nyamilandu said women’s football is at the heart of FAM and and they will join forces with the committee to further grow the game.

“We understand there are new members in the committee that don’t know football administration so we want to take them through football governance and tell them the situation that we are in now in as far as women’s football in concerned and the vision that we have now.

“As an association, we are passionate about women’s football and these are our ambassadors who are going to lead the way in searching for all potentials in developing the game.

“FAM’s hunger for success is high and we are counting on this leadership to keep this fire burning because this is the call to duty that they have. We want to assure the committee of FAM’s full support because the rise of Women’s football is the success of FAM,” he said.

The President also urged the committee to be united and have a winning mentality.

“Everyone wants to leave a good legacy and I want the committe to leave a big treasure after the four years by taking women’s football to another level and realise the dreams that Malawi as a nation has. There is stiff competition in women’s football both at continental and global level as most Member Associations are taking strides in developing the game so we need to surpass them. This can be achieved if the committee is united and work towards the same goal

In her remarks, NWFA Chairperson Adellaide Migogo hailed FAM for the orientation saying the Committee have learnt good football governance skills through the session.

Migogo added that the Committee will share what they have learnt with their member associations but asked FAM to extend the orientation to Regional Women’s Football Associations saying this is where most Women’s football activities take place.

The new Committee was ushered into office on 15th April 2023.

Members of the FAM Management lead by the general secretary are facilitating the session.
