FAM National Women’s championship update

Defending Champions Nyasa Big Bullets on Sunday afternoon booked a place in the semifinals following their 4-0 win over CY Sisters at Mpira Stadium.

Vanessa Chikupira and Tendai Sani scored a brace each for the Maggie Chombo side who lead group A with 9 points from the three games.

DD Sunshine and Destiny Academy will have to battle it out for the remaining group A semifinal slot when they meet on Saturday at Civo Stadium.

DD are second in the group with six points from three games, same with Destiny Academy who have the same points but the former have a superior goal difference of six while the later has three.

Northern Region teams CY Sisters and Topik are out of the race as their current standings cannot take them to the knockout stage.

CY Sisters are fourth in the group and have finished all their four group stage matches with three points while Topik have no point from the three games they have played. They will host Nyasa Big Bullets Women on Saturday for their final group stage fixture.

A tight race also lies in group B as three teams, Ntopwa, Ascent Academy and Civil Service United Women all have chances of making to the last four with each remaining with one match to wind up their camapigns.

Ascent Academy currently lead the group with seven points and a superior goal difference of 13 while Ntopwa are second with seven points and four goals. Civil Women on the other hand have six points.

Northern region based Moyale Sisters will be travelling to the southern region to face Ntopwa and Evirom on Saturday and Sunday with a hope to register their first win or point in the competition . They have lost both they have played so far after goimg down   2-1 to Ascent Academy in their first match before a 3-1 loss against Civil Women in the second match.

Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals which will take place between 28-29 April 2023.

On the top goal scorers’ chart, Ascent Academy’s Rose Kabzere currently leads the chart with eight goals followed by Destiny Academy’s Asimenye Simwaka and DD Sunshine’s Ireen Khumalo who have six goals and 5 goals each respectively. Ntopwa’s Kondawu Banda and Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s Vanessa Chikupira have four goals each.
