FAM National Women’s Championship update: Ntopwa DD Sunshine and Ascent Academy in semi

Ntopwa, DD Sunshine and Ascent Academy have joined Nyasa Big Bullets in the 2022 FAM National Women’s Championship semifinals following their victories in the last group stage matches played on Saturday and Sunday.

Ntopwa beat Moyale Women 6-1 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre to finish on top of Group B with 10 points from their four group stage matches.

Kondawu Banda scored a hat trick as Yamikani Mhango and Mary Chindeya scored a goal each while Moyale’s Ireen Albert scored in her own net to hand the Bangwe-based Women the three important points.

Grace Msowoya scored a consolation goal for Moyale.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women went to Northern region already qualified for the Semifinals and gave wonderful performance with a massive 1-7 win against Topik, to be the only that has finished the group stages with all wins.

Vanessa Chikupira scored 6 goals to take her goal tally to 10, the competition’s leading goal scorer this far Zainab Kapanda scored the 7th goal for the Nyasa ladies as Tionge Chirwa scored the lone goal for the home side Topik Academy.

In the Central Region, Deborah Henry’s 27th minute strike was enough to take DD Sunshine to the Semis as they defeated Destiny Academy with a goal to nil at Civil Stadium.

The two teams went into the match with six points each with one semifinal slot remaining as Nyasa Big Bullets Women had already filled the first slot and DD Sunshine were the lucky side of the day.

Ascent Academy were the last rlteam to fill the semifinal slots on Sunday afternoon after their goalless draw against Civil Service United Women at Civo Stadium.

The Thom Mkolongo side has finished second in Group with eight points as they have registered two wins and two draws.

Evirom registered their first ever win in the competition as they defeated Moyale Women 4-1 at Mpira Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The win was however not enough as the semifinal slots had already been filled but Ntopwa and DD Sunshine in their group.

By finishing first in their respective groups, the Blantyre based sides FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women and Ntopwa will host the Lilongwe based Ascent Academy and DD Sunshine respectively in the Semifinals.
