FAM Launches Women’s Football Strategic Plan

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Monday launched the Malawi Women’s Football Strategic Plan 2025 to 2027 at Mpira Village in Blantyre.

The strategic plan provides a roadmap for the development and growth of women’s football in Malawi, with the aim of positioning the country as a leading force within the COSAFA region and across Africa.

Speaking during the launch, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya described the occasion as a proud and historic milestone for Malawian football.

“Today marks a proud and historic milestone as we officially launch the Malawi Women’s Football Strategic Plan 2025 to 2027, a bold roadmap to position Malawi as a leading force in women’s football within COSAFA and Africa,” said Haiya.

The strategy focuses on key areas including grassroots football, elite competitions, governance, marketing and communication, and technical development.

Haiya said the plan reflects FAM’s commitment to creating sustainable pathways for girls and women in football.

“This strategy reflects our commitment to developing sustainable pathways for girls and women through grassroots football, elite competitions, governance, marketing, and technical development. It is an investment not only in football, but also in empowerment, leadership, and national progress,” he said.

FAM believes the strategic plan will strengthen structures for women’s football, improve participation, enhance competition pathways, and support the growth of players, coaches, referees and administrators.

Haiya also called for collective support from stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the strategy.

“Together with Government, sponsors, partners, and the wider football family, we are building a stronger future for women’s football in Malawi,” he said.

The launch forms part of FAM’s broader football transformation agenda aimed at developing the game across all levels.
