FAM Hosts FIFA Club Management Workshop in Lilongwe

The Football Association of Malawi is conducting the FIFA Essential Courses in Club Management in Lilongwe, a two-day workshop aimed at strengthening football governance, business operations and professional club administration in Malawi.

The training, which commenced on Thursday at Crossroads Hotel, has brought together representatives from FDH Bank Premiership clubs, the NBM Women’s Premiership and the Super League of Malawi Secretariat.

Opening the workshop, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya emphasized the importance of professionalising football management structures in the country.

“Football today goes beyond what happens on the pitch. Strong governance, sound financial management and strategic leadership are essential for clubs to grow sustainably and compete professionally. This workshop is an important step towards building stronger football institutions in Malawi,” said Haiya.

FIFA Head of Development Africa Solomon Mudenge highlighted FIFA’s commitment to strengthening football administration across member associations.

“FIFA is committed to supporting member associations through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives that empower clubs to become more sustainable, accountable and professionally managed,” said Mudenge.

Speaking during the workshop, LUANAR Mitundu FC Chief Executive Officer Edgar Chapalanjira described the training as timely and beneficial for club administrators.

“This training provides valuable knowledge that will help clubs improve their operations, planning and overall professionalism. It is encouraging to see both men’s and women’s football structures represented,” said Chapalanjira.

The workshop is focusing on club governance and leadership, strategic planning, financial management, marketing, commercial operations and match organisation as part of FIFA’s broader football professionalisation agenda.

The two-day workshop will conclude on Friday, 22 May 2026.
