FAM earns two Marketing excellency awards nominations

Football Association of Malawi has earned two nominations at the 2022 Marketing Excellences awards to be held next week.

The Association’s Corporate Social Responsibility flagship, the Charity Shield has been nominated for the CSR initiative of the year.

FAM has also been nominated in the Brand Malawi Initiative of the year through the Beach Soccer sport.

In partnership with NBS Bank, the 2022 Charity Shield raised K10.3 million which was used to procure various items in form of food stuffs and survival kits which were donated to flood victims of cyclone Ana in the lower Shire districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa, mainly targeting vulnerable children and women who were displaced by the floods and are living in makeshift tents.

The Association also made initiative to rebrand Beach Soccer by hosting a first ever Beach Soccer match in Malawi during the AFCON qualifiers which Malawi won and qualified for their maiden AFCON to kickoff in Mozambique this afternoon.

FAM also secured a K20 million sponsorship for the inaugural FAM Beach Soccer National Championship whose qualifiers are currently underway.

Reacting to the news FAM general Secretary Alfred Gunda said: “The nomination itself is good for football as it shows that people outside the game are appreciating the positives that we are making.

“It is a sign that the brand of football is gaining prominence as we have been building it through various initiatives such as the Charity Shield. Great strides have been made to commercialize the game and to be relevant to the community in which we operate through our corporate social responsibility activities,” said Gunda.

The 2019 Charity Shield which was sponsored by Eco bank won the Best Social Marketing Initiative through the 2019 Charity Shield.  Then the Shield mobilized football fans in the fight against the killings, abductions, discriminations, and persecution of people with albinism in Malawi.
