The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has commenced the second phase of stadium inspections ahead of the 2026 football season, with the exercise running from Tuesday, 24 March to Thursday, 2 April 2026.
The inspections will cover 21 stadiums across the country as part of efforts to ensure venues meet the required standards for hosting competitive matches. The exercise is being conducted alongside club visits involving all 16 elite teams as well as 12 clubs participating in the National Division League.
FAM Licensing and Competitions Manager Clement Kafwafwa emphasized that the exercise goes beyond regulatory requirements, describing it as an opportunity for facility improvement.
“The second inspection is not merely a regulatory formality but a strategic opportunity for stadium owners to enhance their facilities and align with global standards,” he said.
Kafwafwa added that particular attention is being placed on key infrastructure areas.
“We are more focused on the playing surface to ensure it is 100 percent compliant, as well as the sanitary facilities. We are also making sure that the surfaces are not waterlogged,” he said.
The inspections are aimed at ensuring all venues meet the necessary criteria, with a strong emphasis on the safety of players, officials and supporters ahead of the new season.
