FAM APPOINTS MR. ABDUL CHIWALO AS GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION OF MALAWI (FAM)

PRESS RELEASE

The Executive Committee of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has unanimously appointed Mr. Abdul Chiwalo as the new General Secretary (GS) following my proposition as FAM President, in accordance with the provisions of our statutes. The appointment is effective from 18th August 2025.

Mr. Chiwalo is an ACCA Chartered Accountant and holds a Master’s Degree in Financial Management, a Master’s Degree in Economic Policy, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He brings with him over 15 years of experience in key managerial and decision-making positions. Prior to his appointment, he served as Management Accountant at MERA and was the Former Chairperson of the Eastern Region Football Association.

This appointment follows the expiry of the contract of Mr. Alfred Gunda, who has diligently served FAM as General Secretary for the past eight years. Before assuming this role, Mr. Gunda was a member of the FAM Executive Committee and served as General Secretary of the Northern Region Football Association.

On behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire football fraternity, I wish to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Alfred Gunda for his unwavering dedication and invaluable contribution to the transformation of football in Malawi. We shall continue to draw from his wealth of experience and knowledge, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
