FAM APPOINTS FRENCHMAN YVON AVRY AS NEW TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed French national Yvon Avry as its new Technical Director.

Avry assumes the position that fell vacant following the departure of Benjamin Kumwenda earlier this year.

The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process that attracted 17 applicants from different parts of the world. After an initial screening, three candidates were shortlisted and interviewed on 23rd September 2025 by a panel comprising representatives from FAM’s Technical, Administrative, and Human Resources departments. Following the evaluation, Avry emerged as the top candidate based on his qualifications, international experience, and technical vision aligned with FAM’s developmental objectives.

A highly qualified and experienced football technician, Avry holds a UEFA A Diploma (FFF, France) and brings a wealth of international expertise to the Malawian game.

He previously served as Technical Advisor for the Fédération Malagasy de Football (FMF) and most recently worked as Technical Director for Fosa Juniors FC in Majunga, Madagascar.

Before his stint in Madagascar, Avry was Technical Director of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) from July 2017 to July 2018, where he was instrumental in implementing youth development structures and coach education programs.

He also served as a FIFA Technical Consultant and Instructor between 2007 and 2021, contributing to several global football development initiatives.

Avry is expected to officially assume his duties on 3rd November 2025, where he will oversee all technical and development programs in line with FAM’s “Transforming the Game” Strategic Plan.
