Extreme FC have moved to the top of the NBS Bank National Division League after beating Changalume Barracks 3-0 at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji on Sunday afternoon.
The Waliranji-based side now lead the table with six points from two matches, ahead of Embangweni United on goal difference. Embangweni also maintained their perfect start after coming from behind to beat Ntaja United 2-1 at Rumphi Stadium.
At Owen Malijani Stadium, Extreme FC took the lead in the 27th minute through Slay Antony, who headed home from a Tony Phiri corner. Chifundo Ngochera doubled the advantage in the 64th minute after being set up by Antony, before substitute Jerry Kalume sealed the win in the 86th minute from a Gregory Mwase assist.
At Rumphi Stadium, Ntaja United went ahead in the 36th minute through Adam Ali, but the match turned after Harrison Phiri was sent off in the 64th minute for a second bookable offence. Embangweni capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Petros Kamanga converting a 70th-minute penalty before Bernad Magawa scored the winner five minutes later.
At Mpira Stadium, Mighty Tigers surrendered top spot after being held to a 2-2 draw by Bangwe All Stars. Bangwe made a flying start through Lyson Nkhoma in the first minute before Dyson Moffat doubled the lead just before half-time.
Tigers responded after the break following tactical changes, with substitute Maxwell Owen Kalale pulling one back in the 57th minute before Khursheed Muhammad equalised in the 76th minute.
The result leaves Tigers third with four points, level with Songwe Border United and Ndirande Stars, who both won their Saturday fixtures.
Songwe Border United had temporarily taken the lead after edging Mzuzu City Hammers 1-0 at Karonga Stadium, while Ndirande Stars defeated Namitete Zitha 2-1 at Mpira Stadium.
The results have set up an exciting early battle in the second season of the NBS Bank National Division League, with Extreme FC and Embangweni United maintaining perfect starts after two matches.
