Blue Eagles will be aiming to topple Silver Strikers from the summit of the TNM Super League when they host Karonga United at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The Area 30-based cops are second with 22 points from 10 games—just a point behind Silver, but Eagles go into Saturday’s match with a game in hand.
However, it will not be a stroll in the park for Eagles as karonga fired warning shots last weekend when they condemned defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets to their first league defeat at Mzuzu Stadium.
It was also Karonga’s first league win which pushed them two steps up from the bottom of the table to 14th in the 16-member league.
Karonga have six points from nine games while Bullets are still 10th with 12 points from seven games.
“To us, the win heralded a bright new dawn for us,” said Karonga coach Kondwani Mwalweni.
On Sunday, Karonga face Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium.
In other games, Bullets will be hoping to recover from their last weekend disappointment when they face Wizards FC—a team owned by their former captain Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda.
On Monday, Be Forward Wanderers entertain league anchors MTV Nyasa big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.
