Dedza Young Soccer stun Blue Eagles

Central Region Football League side Dedza Young Soccer on Sunday afternoon became the second regional team to qualify for the FDH Bank Cup quarterfinals after beating Super League side Blue Eagles 5-4 on post-match penalties.

This came two days after another second- tie league side Rumphi  United beat Super League giants Red Lions 4-1 on post match penalties as well.

Mecium Mhone gave Blue Eagles the lead just five minutes into the game through a direct free-kick only for Dedza Young Soccer’s Felix Msowoya to draw level 10 minutes later.

Despite Blue Eagle dominating the entire match they could not find the winner forcing the match into penalties.

Blue Eagles’ Wonder Jeremani’s penalty was saved by goalkeeper Ackim Leonard  while Dedza scored all their five penalties.

In Blantyre, Nyasa Big Bullets beat Mighty Tigers 2-0 to seal the last quarterfinal slot.

Lanjesi Nkhoma scored first in the 20th minute before McFallen Mgwira scored the second in added time to seal victory for the Peoples team.

The teams that have made it to the last eight are Mafco,Ntopwa, Rumphi United, Silver Strikers,Ekwendeni Hammers,Be Forward Wanderers,Dedza Young Soccer and Nyasa Big Bullets.

The draw for the Quarterfinals is set for this week at a day to be announced.
