Dedza Dynamos Edge Blue Eagles on Penalties to Reach Castel Challenge Cup Final

Goshen City Dedza Dynamos have booked their place in the 2025/26 Castel Challenge Cup final after edging Blue Eagles 4 to 3 on post match penalties at Kamuzu Stadium.

The semifinal produced a dramatic finish, with Dedza Dynamos forcing the match into a shootout after scoring a late equaliser deep into stoppage time. Blue Eagles had taken the lead in the 83rd minute through Micium Mhone, but Gift Magola struck in the 90 plus five minute to keep Dedza’s hopes alive.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Lughano Kaira and Maxwell Gustavo converted for Dedza Dynamos, while Christopher Phiri missed his effort. For Blue Eagles, Tonic Viyuyi and Sankhani Mkandawire failed to find the target, sealing their side’s exit from the competition.

Dedza Dynamos head coach Ngwira hailed his team’s fighting spirit after the match.

“You could see how spirited we were. We cannot thank the players enough for the resilience they showed,” said Ngwira.

Blue Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona admitted the defeat was painful but said his side would take positives going into the new season.

“It is disappointing because we were in the lead, but penalties can go either way. We will fix our mistakes, take the positives and wish Dedza Dynamos all the best,” he said.

Dedza Dynamos will now face the winner between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mzuzu City Hammers, who meet on Sunday at the same venue, in the final of the Castel Challenge Cup.
