Day Three Preview: Goshen FAM Women’s championship

It will be another action-packed day as the 2023 Fam Goshen Women’s National Championship enters Day Three at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

After entertaining and exciting matches in the opening two days, the fans, who have been coming in large numbers, will be hoping for another exciting quarter-finals this afternoon.

Two teams Civil Service United Women and Silver Strikers Ladies that qualified to the quarter-finals following their victories over Mighty Wanderers Queens and CY Sisters respectively, were given one-day rest.

Civil Women will face MK Academy in the first match of the day at noon before paving way for Silver Ladies and Moyale Sisters later in the afternoon.

The winners in today’s matches will progress to the semi-finals of the championship. They will join Ascent Academy and Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Lionesses in the last four.

Ascent who knocked out champions Kukoma Ntopwa Women following 4-0 win, will face either Silver Ladies or Moyale in the semi-finals. Lionesses also thrashed Bullets Women 4- 1 in the quarter-finals and they will meet the winner between Civil and MK Academy.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) pumped K50 million into this year’s competition while Goshen City provided K21 million. Fam’s K50m package is for the teams’ prizes and subvention, officiation and general organisation of the tournament. The association provided K1 million to each of the ten teams as subvention and will also give extra K1 million to semi-finalists.

The Goshen City package is for uniforms, match balls, medals and individual awards.
