Blue Eagles and Flames midfielder John ‘CJ’ Banda is set to fly out to Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday for trials with Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Jomo Cosmos.
Banda, Cosmos’ local-based agent Ben Chiwaya and Eagles yesterday confirmed the development, saying the player will be on trials for a week starting today.
“His travel arrangements have already been finalised and he is departing on Tuesday. His trials are expected to start soon after his arrival in Jo’burg and he will be there for at least a week,” said Chiwaya.
Banda said he had been looking forward to such an opportunity.
“I thank God for proving me this chance to try my luck and it is now up to me to impress. I have waited for so long for such an opportunity and I need to grab it with both hands,” said Banda.
Eagles vice-general secretary Benjamin Msowoya also confirmed having released the player for the trials.
Should he succeed, Banda will join compatriot and former team-mate Micium Mhone who also plays for the same team. Other Malawians who play in the PSL are Limbikani Mzava, Robert Ng’ambi, Gerald Phiri Jnr, Robin Ngalande, Esau Kanyenda, Atusaye Nyondo and Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango while Harry Nyirenda plays in the National First Division (NFD).
