Chombo Names Final Squad for World Cup Qualifier Decider

Malawi U20 Women’s National Team head coach Maggie Chombo has named a 20-member squad for the decisive final round of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.

The squad includes four players who were part of the recent Scorchers team at the FIFA Series in Kenya: Leticia Chinyamula, Olivia Phikani, Sarah Mlimbika, and Esther Maulidi.

The qualifiers have now reached the final stage, with four African teams set to qualify for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland. Malawi will face Nigeria in a two-legged tie, with the first leg scheduled for Saturday, May 2 in Nigeria, and the return leg on Saturday, May 9 at Bingu National Stadium.

The Young Scorchers are set to fly out to Nigeria today ahead of the first leg.
