Chitipa United in Castel Cup Quarterfinals

Chitipa United are through to the Castel Challenge Cup quarter-finals after seeing of White Eagles 4-0 at Karonga Stadium.

Jack Beza, China Chirwa, Mabuchi Msiska and Rajab Nyirenda were on target for the TNM Super League outfit as the home team comfortably sailed to the last eight.

From the first whistle it was the home side all the way as they dominated the Southern Region Football Association ThumbsUp League side.

It only took Chitipa United 17 minutes to take a lead as Beza netted the opener in the after being set up by Glem Lemera.

Chitipa had a chance to double the lead in the 28th minute after being awarded a penalty following a handball in the box, but White Eagles goalkeeper Joseph Ngalande saved Chirwa spot kick.

However, China made amends for the penalty miss as he netted second goal for Chitipa in the 32nd minute, firing home from a loose ball.

Eagles hand a chance to reduce the deficit after they were also awarded a penalty in the 86th minute after a handball in the box, but Precious Kasiya’s spot kick hit the post and Chitipa goalkeeper George Chikooka saved the rebound.

From the counterattack, Chitipa went on to score the third through Msiska from a Stain Patrick assist.

Nyirenda then made it 4-0 from a direct set piece in the 90th minute to complete the rout and confirm Chitipa’s place in the last eight.

Chitipa assistant coach Nathaniel Mkamanga said he was excited that they are in the quarter-finals of the competition after a winding road from the round of 64.

“It was a good game, looking at the journey that we have gone through. We have come a long way. We are just happy that we are in the quarter-finals,” he said.

White Eagles assistant coach Wisdom Matuya said despite the loss, they had proved that they can match Super League teams.

“We played very well . You have players from lower league stringing five passes which some Super League players are failing to do. Despite losing we have proved that we have good players.”

On Sunday Red Lions will host Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the third round of 16 match.
