The 2025 Castel Challenge Cup roared to life in Nsanje on Saturday, with Umodzi FC clinching a tight 1-0 win over Nsanje Medicals in the tournament’s official launch match.
Played at the newly renovated Nsanje Youth Centre, the game wasn’t just a formality, it marked the vibrant return of Malawi’s biggest knockout football competition.
Castel Limited Head of Product Development and Marketing Strategy, Frank Binauli praised the turnout, emphasizing grassroots passion and announcing broader goals: building supporter clubs and deepening fan involvement.
“This isn’t just about teams anymore.”
“We’re investing in fans, in the communities, in the culture that makes Malawian football special,” he said.
FAM Executive Member, Felister Dossi, hailed a record K440 million sponsorship, the largest in the nation’s cup history, promising a stronger, more competitive tournament.
Dossi confirmed that this year’s cup will align with the national football calendar, culminating in a February 2026 final packed with elite and grassroots talent.
It is the first time the cup has launched in the Southern Region, with Nsanje now joining Rumphi and Mponela as symbolic hosts of football’s growth in remote districts.
Featuring 32 teams, from small-town heroes to Super League giants, the Castel Cup remains a stage for dreams, drama, and unity through the beautiful game.
