CAF appoints Malawian referees for February assignments

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed two Malawian referees for the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations qualifying match between Burkina Faso and Burundi.

According to communication from CAF, Bernadettar Kwimbira will serve as the first assistant referee while Eness Gumbo has been allocated as the fourth official for the match to played in Bamako, Mali, on 26th February 2025 at Stade 26 Mars.

In a related development, CAF has also appointed Martha Nyekanyeka as referee’s assessor for a 2026 WAFCON qualifying match between Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea.

The match will be played in Der Es Salaam, Tanzania, at Azam Complex Stadium on 20th February 2025.

Speaking on the appointments, FAM Referees Manager Duncan Lengani said this proves the growing recognition of Malawian on the global stage.

“The appointments of Malawian referees to officiate international matches is a milestone for the country’s football development. It demonstrates CAF’s confidence in our match officials and growing recognition of Malawian referees, and we have no doubt that they will perform to the best of their capabilities in this assignment,” said Lengani.
