FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women edged city rivals Mighty Wanderers Queens 1–0 in a tense Blantyre Derby at Mpira Stadium on Sunday to move from 6th to 3rd place on the NBM Women’s Premiership log table.
The result pushed Wanderers Queens down to 5th, while Kukoma Ntopwa Women climbed to 4th after a resounding 5–1 victory over Moyale Sisters on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium.
It was a weekend of derbies in the NBM Women’s Premiership, with thrilling fixtures in all three regions.
In Lilongwe, Silver Strikers Ladies maintained their 100% winning record, defeating rivals Civil Service Women 2–1 in the Capital City Derby, while Ascent Soccer retained second position after overcoming MDF Lionesses 2–0 in another local clash.
In the Blantyre Derby, it was Iouria Yiannakis who proved decisive for Bullets Women, scoring the winner in the 89th minute. Her outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
At Silver Stadium, Deborah Henry continued her fine form, scoring her 9th goal of the season in the 8th minute, before Mphatso Gondwe doubled the lead in the 23rd.
Bernadetta Nyenga pulled one back for Civil Service Women in the 32nd minute, but the goal only served as consolation as the Bankers extended their lead at the top.
At Ascent Ground, Maureen Kenneth broke the deadlock in the 60th minute for Ascent Soccer before Mayamiko Mkandawire sealed victory deep into stoppage time (90+7’) — netting her 6th goal of the season, just three behind Silver’s Henry.
Meanwhile, in Mzuzu, Kukoma Ntopwa Women were ruthless as they demolished Moyale Sisters 5–1.
Kondawo Banda scored her 5th goal of the campaign, while Funny Magombo bagged a brace, with Mary Chideya and Alice Brazi also on the scoresheet. Aidah Kanthenga scored Moyale’s consolation in the 57th minute, as they remained 8th with 4 points.
The NBM Women’s Premiership returns with a full round of thrilling fixtures on Mother’s Day, Wednesday, October 15, as teams continue their push to close the first round on a high.
In Blantyre, all eyes will be on Mpira Stadium, which will host a double-header.
The morning clash will see Kukoma Ntopwa Women taking on Civil Service Women from 11h00, before the spotlight shifts to the afternoon showdown where FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will face off against league leaders Silver Strikers Ladies from 14h30 — a fixture promising fireworks between two attacking powerhouses.
Up north, Mzuzu Stadium will also come alive as Mighty Wanderers Queens travel to face MK Academy Women in what is expected to be a tightly contested encounter kicking off at 11h00.
Later in the day, Moyale Sisters will host Ascent Soccer at Rumphi Stadium from 14h30, as the Lilongwe-based side looks to keep pressure on Silver Strikers at the summit.
Meanwhile, at Champion Stadium, MDF Lionesses will look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat when they host Topik Academy in a morning fixture starting at 10h00.
With just two matches remaining to complete the first round, every team will be eager to collect maximum points — whether fighting for the title or battling to climb out of the lower half of the table.
