Bullets Women Boost Silver Ladies’ Title Push as Leaders Edge Wanderers

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women have handed Silver Strikers Ladies a major boost in the National Bank of Malawi NBM Women’s Premiership title race after defeating second placed  Ascent Soccer 2-1, while the league leaders continued their march with a 2-0 victory over Mighty Wanderers Queens.

Silver Strikers Ladies, who now have 39 points, require just two more wins to clinch the title as they could reach an unassailable 42 points. Ascent Soccer remain on 29 points and can only reach a maximum of 41 even if they win their remaining fixtures.

At Silver Stadium, the Bankers accounted for Wanderers Queens with both goals coming from the league’s leading scorer Deborah Henry, whose outstanding display earned her the Player of the Match accolade.

Henry opened the scoring early, heading home a long delivery from Yamikani Mhango in the eighth minute. Wanderers struggled to cope with sustained pressure from Henry, Mhango, Grace Kakangula and Wezzie Mvula, and the top scorer sealed the win deep into stoppage time with a simple tap-in after beating the defence.

In the first-round meeting between the two sides, Silver also won 1-0 through Henry at Mpira Stadium.

Meanwhile, at Mpira Stadium, Bullets Women came from behind to stun Ascent Soccer. The visitors took an early lead when Fatima Lali tapped in after receiving a pass from Mayamiko Mkandawire. However, Ascent suffered a setback when Lali was injured after being pulled from behind and was forced off at halftime.

Bullets made tactical changes after the break, introducing Linda Nyangu, and the response was immediate. Two minutes into the second half, Matamando Makawa delivered a superb pass that Mary Chavinda converted to level the match.

Chavinda completed her brace in the 55th minute with a stunning direct free kick, and Bullets held firm thereafter to claim all three points.

Elsewhere, Civil Service Women registered a 2-0 victory over relegated Topik Academy at Civo Stadium. Anna Bazilio opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after Jessie Yosefe was fouled inside the box, before adding a second goal in stoppage time to take Civil Service to 22 points, level with MDF Lionesses.

At Mzuzu Stadium, MK Academy finally secured their first win of the season after defeating Moyale Sisters. The victory lifted MK Academy to seven points, moving them above Moyale Sisters, who remain on five points and now occupy eighth position on the table.

The title race now firmly tilts in Silver Strikers Ladies’ favour as the season enters its decisive phase.
