Bullets, Silver warm up for Charity Shield

TNM Super League Champions , Nyasa Big Bullets and FAM FDH Bank Cup Winners, Silver Strikers FC had mixed fortunes on Thursday when they participated in pre-season friendly matches at the Mpira Stadium ahead of their highly anticipated NBS Bank Charity Shield clash at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.

Bullets were stunned by newly promoted Super League side Sable Farming, 2-1 in a match the rookies came from a goal down to upset the champions in a late kickoff after their Saturday rivals registered a 0-2 win over fellow Super League outfit Mighty Tigers earlier on.

The Peoples Team took the lead against Sable Farming FC early in the first half thanks to veteran defender Yamikani Fodya’s spotkick.

But the Super League newcomers scored twice in the first half to stun the Callisto Pasuwa side which featured a blended team consisting of their newly signed and promoted players.

Sable FC winger, Tinana Malekano pounced on a spilled ball from Bullets goalkeeper Robson Chiyenda to restore parity before Humphreys Chimwaza capitalized on a defensive blunder to give Sable FC the lead in first half stoppage time.

Earlier, Silver Strikers boosted their confidence ahead of the Charity Shield showdown after Chawanangwa Kaonga announced his return to local football with a brace that gave The Central Bankers a 0-2 win over Mighty Tigers.

Both Bullets and Silver Strikers have however now shifted their focus to the Charity Shield clash on Saturday which will mark the official opening of the 2022 local soccer season.

The two team face-off in the Shield after Nyasa Big Bullets were crowned Champions of the 2020/2021 TNM Super League while Silver Strikers beat Ekwendeni Hammers 2-0 to win the FDH Bank Cup last season.
