Big Bullets on Wednesday retained the TNM Super League title in spectacular fashion after coming from behind to beat strong-willed Azam Tigers 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
There were spontaneous parties in and around the stadium after the final whistle as the People’s Team celebrated one of their most impressive league runs in recent times.
They went into the match needing just a point and when the Kau Kau Boys took the lead through Bright Munthali, it looked as if Bullets’ celebrations would be delayed.
However, a brace from their man-of-the-moment Jaffalie Chande capped it all to send the ‘red army’ into frenzy.
Bullets still have four games to wind up the season, but such is the luxury that no team can reach 57 points which they have. Second-placed Mafco are 17 points behind.
“It has been a wonderful season for us. We were consistent from start to finish. On behalf of my fellow players, I would like to thank our supporters and management for their support because without their motivation, we couldn’t have done it,” said winger Dalitso Sailesi.
Last season, Bullets also won the league after almost a decade in the wilderness.
They have now won the league a record 12 times.
