
TNM Super League defending champions Big Bullets’ quest to retain the title is right on track having finished the first-round unbeaten and at the top of the table with 29 points.
Bullets beat Epac 4-1 on Saturday to maintain their grip at the top of the log table, they have now created a six-point gap with their rivals and second-placed Azam Tigers and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers who have 23 points each.
Jaffalie Chande, scored the opener for Bullets against his former team, but Epac equalised through Clement Mvula.
The two teams were tied one-all at interval. However, Bullets stepped up the tempo in the second-half and revitalised forward Chiukepo Msowoya made it 2-1 before Dalitso Sailesi added the third within a space of five minutes. Mussa Manyenje completed the rout.
Wanderers held Red Lions to a one-all draw in Zomba. Leading scorer Innocent Bokosi gave the Zomba-based Lions the lead which was cancelled by substitute Luka Milanzi.
Tigers thumped compounded Epac’s misery with a 4-0 thrashing on Sunday.
Although Tigers and Nomads are tied on points and goal difference, Tigers have a better goal aggregate which puts them on second position.
Bright Munthali, Peter Kasonga and Yamikani Chester before Daniel Sibale closed the scoresheet in the second half.
“I am happy that we have finished the first-round on second position and it will boost our confidence going into the second round. I salute my players for playing to instructions,” said Tigers coach Gerald Phiri Snr.
Silver Strikers on Sunday survived rookies Fisd Wizards’ scare when they were held to a one-all draw.
Chimwemwe Chisambi put Silver ahead in the first half, but Wizards cancelled the lead through Hendrix Misinde.
On Saturday, Dedza Young Soccer Stars edged Wizards 2-1.
Wizards anchor the table with seven points from 12 games while Silver have finished the first-round on eighth position with 20 points.
In other games, Moyale beat Civo United 1-0 while Kamuzu Barracks saw off Mafco 3-1.
