FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Blue Eagles and Ekhaya FC became the first teams to book places in the quarterfinals of the Castel Challenge Cup following convincing victories in Saturday’s Round of 16 fixtures.
At Kamuzu Stadium, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets came from behind to register a 3 -1 win over Ndirande Stars.
Ndirande Stars took the lead in the 34th minute through Kondwani Kucheza. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets responded after the break when Ephraim Kondowe levelled matters in the 50th minute before Maxwell Gasten Phodo struck twice to complete the comeback and seal progression.
In Lilongwe, Ekhaya FC edged Shire Wimbe FC 1-0 at Nankhaka Stadium. The Cowboys secured the win courtesy of Moses Banda, who scored the decisive goal on the half hour mark.
At Champion Stadium, Blue Eagles delivered an emphatic 5 -1 victory over Airborne Rangers.
Tonic Viyuyi opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Pius Saka doubled the lead to give the Area 30 side a 2 to 0 advantage at half time. Two minutes after the restart, Micium Mhone added the third, while Viyuyi completed his brace nine minutes from full time. Chikondi Mvula capped the scoring in the 90th minute.
Airborne Rangers pulled one back in added time through Kephas Zimba as consolation.
The Castel Cup Round of 16 continues with more fixtures scheduled this week, with the remaining quarterfinal places still up for grabs.
