Blantyre Zero, DD Sunshine in FAM WC Final

Southern Region giants Blantyre Zero will yet again face their Central region counterparts DD Sunshine in the final of the FAM National Women’s Championship this Saturday in Lilongwe.

Blantyre Zero progressed through to the final after defeating Ascent Academy 6-5 on post-match penalties after a goalless draw on Saturday morning.

Vanessa Chikupira, Carol Mulenzo, Sharon Dzimau, Zainab Kapanda, Emily Josam and Chimwemwe Sapangwa scored for Blantyre Zero while Mary Chavinda missed her spot kick.

Ireen Khumalo, Leticia Chinyamula, Catherine Gaudi, Atuweni Njilima, and Caroline Khoviwa all converted there spot kicks for Ascent Academy with Deliness Misinga and Captain Melicy Lickson missing their penalties to hand Blantyre Zero a 6-5 shoot win.

In Lilongwe, DD Sunshine eased past their central region rivals Skippers  with a 4-0 victory, thanks to a Caroline Mathyola hat trick and a Chisomo Banda goal to confirm their place in the final.

The Saturday championship decider will be a repeat of a 2020 Presidential Cup final when the two teams met with DD emerging champions after wining 3-1.

DD will go into the final boosting a 100 percent clean sheet record as they are to conceded in five games.

Before the final, there will be a third place play-off between Ascent Academy and Skippers.

The inaugural FAM National Women’s Championship winner will go away with K3 Million and a trophy.
