Beach Eagles make it three straight at Livingstonia Beach

Beach Eagles from Nkhatabay District have won a thrice consecutive Fam National Beach Soccer Championship after beating Tourism of Salima 1-3 on post-Match penalties in the final at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima on Sunday afternoon.

The match ended 3-3 in regulation time and penalty shootouts decided the winner.

To reach the final Beach Eagles beat Nyasa from Mangochi 7-6, whereas Tourism overcame Deep Bay of Karonga in the semifinals. .

Beach Eagles has received 5.5 million kwacha, while Tourism has pocketed 4 million for finishing as runners up.

Nyasa for finishing third has received 2.750 million kwacha and Deep Bay has received 2 million in the fourth position.

Speaking after the game Beach Eagles Coach Funtha Chiponda thanked his players for putting up a good fight to defend the cup.

Meanwhile Football Association of Malawi 1st vice president Christopher Madalitso Kuyera expressed FAM’s commitment towards supporting the game.

“As FAM we are geared to support beach Soccer in the country, and as we are speaking, negotiations are at an advanced stage for the association to increase the sponsorship package.” Said Kuyera

On his part Beach Soccer Association of Malawi Chairperson Force Ngwira applauded the teams for putting up a convincing performance during the 2 day tournament.

“We are happy with the way the competition has been handled, teams also came prepared and we have witnessed a tightly contested tournament”. Ngwira said.
