Bangwe All Stars registered their first win of the NBS Bank National Division League Season Two after beating Changalume Barracks 2-0 at Mpira Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Bangwe, who finished sixth in the inaugural season, had endured a difficult start to the current campaign, managing two draws and five defeats before Friday’s match.
The win has taken Bangwe to five points, while Changalume Barracks have dropped to the bottom of the table with four points from four draws and four defeats.
Bangwe opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Joshua Masache, who finished with a simple tap-in to give his side the lead.
With 12 minutes left on the clock, Upile Kapunja doubled the advantage after being set up by Ellard Msosa to seal maximum points for Bangwe.
Today, Matchweek Eight continues with fourth-placed Ndirande Stars hosting second-placed Extreme FC, who have 15 points, while Mighty Tigers will be at home at Mpira Stadium against leaders Songwe Border United, who have 16 points.
On Sunday, fifth-placed FOMO FC, who have 11 points, will host Mzuzu City Hammers at Mulanje Park, while Namitete Zitha will welcome Ntaja United at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji.
Third-placed Embangweni United, who have 13 points, will be on the road on Monday to face Chilobwe United at Mpira Stadium.
With the first round entering its final stretch, the race for the title, promotion places and survival remains tight.
