Gabadinho Mhango has said he is excited at helping his South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bidvest Wits win the MTN8 Tournament.
The Clever Boys thumped Mamelodi Sundown 3-0 in Nelspruit on Saturday to win the tournament that goes with R8 million (about K406 million).
Gabadinho was a constant threat for Sundowns until he was substituted in 69th minute.
He also came close to scoring in the first half.
“Obviously, I am very excited, this achievement means a lot to me.
“It is my first time to win a cup here and it has also taken Wits a long time to win a silverware [six years]. So, I guess I have all the reason to be happy,” he said.
“I am very proud to have played a big part in this success. We reduced Sundowns to an ordinary side due to team spirit.”
Daine Klate scored on either side of a goal from Rodgers as Gavin Hunt’s men easily disposed of a Sundowns side who only really got out of the blocks in the second stanza.
Wits coach Gavin Hunt was visibly thrilled to have seen his Bidvest Wits side claim a first trophy in six years and spoke of building on their MTN8 success.
He praised his team for achieving such a tremendous feat against quality opponents.
