Flames lose to Egypt

The Flames lost 2-1 to Egypt in a friendly match played on Monday night away in Alexandra.

The Pharaohs’  scored first on 19 minutes, Ahmed Mekki took advantage of some poor defending to volley the ball home from eight yards to give Egypt a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Dodo El-Gabas doubled the lead with a fantastic volley following a goal-box scramble.

The Flames got a goal back after 63 minutes when Joseph Kamwendo caught the Egyptian defense off guard by playing a quick free-kick through to John Banda, who tucked the ball home.

The Flames noticably started to gain control of the game , but they were ultimately unable to tie the game, as the Pharaohs head into AFCON qualifiers on the heels of a 2-1 win.

Flames were fine tuning for their first 2017 Afcon qualifier against Zimbabwe at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday 13th June 2015.

The team return home today and will proceed into camp ahead of the Saturday match.
