Flames drawn against Guinea, Zim and Swaziland

Flames and Zimbabwe in their last encounter in March 2014

The Flames have been drawn against Guinea, Zimbabwe and Swaziland in group L of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which will be hosted by Gabon.
The draw took place in Cairo on Wednesday afternoon.
The qualifiers start with Flames at home against Zimbabwe during the weekend of 12/14 June. The next match will be an away trip to Swaziland during the weekend of 4/6th September 2015.
The rest of the fixtures will be played in 2016 with back to back fixtures against Guinea away and home in a space of six days between 23 and 29th March.
The next match will be away against Zimbabwe on the weekend of 3/6 June while the last fixture will be a home match against Swaziland during the weekend of 2/4 September.
The winner of the group plus the other 12 group winners will qualify automatically for the finals alongside hosts Gabon and two best runners up.
Flames last played Guinea in the 2010 World Cup/ Afcon qualifiers losing 2-1 away in June 2009 and winning the home match by the same margin in September the same year.
Malawi’s last competitive encounter with Zimbabwe was a 2013 Cosafa Cup quarterfinal fixture which Zimbabwe won on post-match penalties after a one all draw.  However their latest meeting was a friendly match in March 2014 at Kamuzu  Stadium which Zimbabwe won comfortably 4-1.The last time Flames played Swaziland was in an international friendly match in 2007.
