Flames tumble 26 places on Fifa rankings

Flames at the Cosafa

The Flames downward plunge continued on Thursday when they fell 26 places on Fifa World Rankings from 107 to 133.
On the African continent, the Flames have dropped to 42nd from last month’s 28th.
The drop follows the team’s poor showing during their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifier against Zimbabwe’s Warriors which they lost 3-0 away in Harare as well as their failure to get past the group stages of the regional Cosafa Castle Cup.
“It is disappointing, we need to reflect seriously; otherwise this is the lowest we can go,” said captain Limbikani Mzava.
In the Cosafa bloc, the Flames are ninth behind South Africa, Zambia, Botswanana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Madagascar.
Argentina remain the top-ranked team in the world followed by Belgium, Colombia and Germany in that order.
In Africa, Algeria (32) are top followed by Cote d’ Ivoire (35) and Ghana (36).
