TNM Super League leaders Blue Eagles on Sunday suffered a 4-0 comprehensive defeat at the hands of Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe.
But despite suffereing their second consencutive league loss, the cops still top the table with 18 points from eight games—two short of Silver Strikers who pipped Red Lions 2-1 on Satueday.
Barracks led midway through the first half when Eagles captain Steve Chagoma headed into his own net.
With 10 minutes remaining before the half time recess, KB stretched their the lead when a Diouf Simaone free-kick beat Eagles ‘keeper John Soko.
KB scored the third goal in the second half when midfielder Harvey Nkacha connected home from close range attracting cheers from spectators.
Eagles tried to reduce the arrears as the match wore on but Winster Phiri and John Malidadi could not beat prolific goalkeeper Lemani Nthala.
Nkacha then claimed a brace with a low shot to compound Eagles’ misery.
Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona said the loss was a blow to their title ambitions but was optimistic his side will come back stronger.
Barracks coach Billy Phambala described the win aa a sign that his team has recovered from a poor start to the season.
At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Karonga United held Wizards to a goalless draw.
Karonga still anchor the table with three points from four games while Wizards are still fifth from the bottom with seven points from six games.
