Blue Eagles at the weekend registered their sixth successive TNM Super League win after edging Moyale Barracks 1-0 to take their tally to 18 points.
John Malidadi Jnr scored the priceless goal as the cops’ side opened a seven points gap at the summit of the league following Mafco’s fruitful sojourn to the South where they collected maximum points.
On Saturday, Mafco beat Wizards 3-1 in Nchalo before seeing off Be Forward Wanderers 3-2 on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium to take their tally to 11 points while the Nomads have dropped to 10th position with six points.
Stain Malata put Mafco in the lead in the third minute but new-signing Jaffalie Chande pulled level for the Nomads in the 23rd minute when he headed home Mike Kaziputa’s corner kick.
However, eight minutes after recess, Mafco restored the lead through Zikhole Nguluwe’s freekick but with just a minute left in regulation time, Boston Kabango equalised for Wanderers with a header from a Jabulani Linje cross.
And just when it appeared like the two teams would share the spoils, the sky fell on the Nomads when red-hot forward Richard Mbulu grabbed the winner for Mafco in added time from a set-piece.
Mzuzu University (Mzuni) slipped from second to third position when they were held to a goalless draw by Silver Strikers on Sunday.
The Bankers returned from the North with four points after beating returnees Karonga United 3-0 on Saturday to tie on points with Mzuni, but they have are fourth to an inferior goal difference. Timothy Chitedze scored a brace while Mathews Sibale scored the other goal.
Moyale are fifth also with 10 points while NMC Big Bullets are sixth with nine points following their 2-0 win over Epac FC on Saturday.
Chiukepo Msowoya scored both goals for Bullets to take his tally to five goals—the highest so far.
