
Malawi’s Sweden-based female professional footballer Tabitha Chawinga made a good start to the new season when he scored for her team Kvarnsweden IK against Vittsjo FC in their opening match of the Damallsvenesk premier league.
The match ended in a one-all draw and Chawinga scored just a minute before interval to cancel Vittsjo’s lead and earn her side a point.
Nkemjika Ezurke put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute.
Chawinga said she has set herself a 25-goal aggregate this season.
“It was a tough game and I am happy to have scored a goal that earned my team a point,” said the former DD Sunshine forward.
Kvarnsweden IK, earned a promotion to the top-flight league after winning the second-tier league championship.
Chawinga won the Golden Boot Award in the lower league that inspired her team to earn promotion.
