A Malawian owned local security company Master Security has pumped in K10.5 million to become the official sponsor of Malawi’s oldest football league, the Southern Region Football League.
The three year deal was signed today at the Mpira Village in Blantyre and will be reviewed after the end of every season.
The new sponsors have already paid K3 million in advance as well as medals and trophies for the upcoming league season.
Masters Security Company’s Managing Director Alfred Gangata said his company thought it wise to sponsor SRFA as it was the only association without a sponsor.
He also promised Malawians that if all goes well, his company will come up with a national trophy. However, he asked support from Malawians in order to boost the company’s business.
“It is sad that despite that the huge business deals given to international companies they don’t invest back in the communities. As a Malawian company we feel we should show them the way though we are minor players in the industry.
“We cannot sit here and make money from Malawians and let big adventures like the Southern Region Football League die.
“We are here to stay and we will continue sponsoring in other football circles,” said Gangata.
Master Security also sponsors a football team Master security FC that plays in the Central Region Football League.
Southern Region Football Association chairman Raphael Humba was short of words to describe his assignments after being ridiculed following a contractual dispute with previous sponsor last season.
“It is a huge relief to us and we will safeguard this. I would like to thank Master Security for the sponsorship and as a league we would also like thank FAM Competitions Manager Gomezgani Zakazaka who initiated the deal alongside the Commercial Director Limbani Matola,” said Humba.
FAM President Walter Nyamilandu promised Master security that they will get a huge value out of the sponsorship.
“We will do our level best to ensure that you get maximum value in return of the investment you have made in football. You are not wrong in patterning us, you have come to the right platform and we will give you all the support.
“You are a small company but have made huge sacrifices which we don’t take for granted and big companies should be asking themselves why they can’t do this,” said Nyamilandu.
