Flames midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr’s manager Paul Mitchel has said the player’s lone move to Botswana top side Township Rollers, is good for his career.
Phiri has been loaned to the Gaborone-based side by South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bidvest Wits following the delay to have his work permit processed by that country’s Department of Home Affairs.
Phiri has been reduced to a sideshow since he signed for Wits in July last year.
“The move is good for Gerald in that it will afford him game time, otherwise the situation was not healthy for his career,” said Mitchel.
Rollers unveiled Phiri early this week and his loan move will run up to May this year.
“The expectation is that by July his documents will be ready so that he can be registered for the PSL,” said Mitchel.
He will become the third player in the Botswana top-flight league after Lawrence ‘Tico-Tico’ Majawa and Lewis Minjale.
Until recently, another former Flames international Jimmy Zakazaka also had a stint with Botswana Defence Force XI.
