Club licensing only way to professionalise Malawi Football

Participants and instructors pose with FAM officials

Football Association of Malawi says club licensing is the only way that can help to professionalise the game in the country.
FAM Executive Committee member James Mwenda made the remarks when he officially opened the two day CAF Club Licensing Seminar at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.
“All countries that  have made progress in Africa and beyond have done so because of this process. In Malawi we started it in 2009 but we failed to move due to our internal fighting. But time has come now that we should move the talk,” he said.
Council for Southern Africa Football – COSAFA Secretary General Sue Destombes said Malawi has done much of the ground work to roll out the implementation of the Fifa Initiative.
“Malawi is one of the countries that are ready to roll out club licensing. The FA has done most of bits and pieces that are required to be ready to start club licensing,” Destombes said.
Destombes is facilitating the course alongside Dennis Mumble from South African and Mas-ud Didi Dramani from Ghana.
The  45 participants have come from the 15 Super League teams, Stadia Management, Coaches, Super League of Malawi, Regional League, Women and Youth Football Associations and FAM Club Licensing decision making bodies.
