BT Zero are Women FAM Cup champs

BT Zero

After playing out a goalless draw in a nerve-shredding finale, Blantyre Zero emerged champions of this year’s Women FAM Cup after beating Ntopwa Super Queens 3-2 in post-match penalties.
The match, played last Sunday at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre, attracted one of the best crowds ever to witness a local women’s football match.
For winning the cup, Blantyre Zero got K1 million plus a trophy and their coach Maggie Chombo-Sadiki was delighted with the triumph.
“It was a very tough encounter that could have gone either way, but in the end, we carried the day and I salute my girls for giving out their best,” said Sadiki who doubles as national women’s football team assistant coach.
Ntopwa’s patron Isaac Jomo Osman said his team lost due to the inexperience in taking penalties.
“Penalties are lottery they can go either way, unfortunately we were not sharp when it came to spot-kicks. But overall,  it was an exciting match,” he said.
Blantyre Zero’s Plirani Malola was named the tournament’s best player while Ntopwa’s Vanessa Chikupira got the Golden Boot award.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu said they were impressed with the standards and pledged continued sponsorship.
