The organising committee of the Standard Bank Knockout Cup has confirmed that the finals of this year’s edition between Civo United and Be Forward Wanderers will be played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on November 1.
Chairperson of the competition’s main organising committee, Jabbar Alide, confirmed the development.
“We met and came up with the decision to have the final in Lilongwe. There were several factors that we looked at before determining the venue, including consulting the sponsor.
“We have already told the sponsors of the competition, Standard Bank, and they have given us a go ahead to have the game played at the Civo Stadium on the said date,” said Alide.
Wanderers general secretary Mike Butao has since said apart from the cost factor, they have no problems playing in Lilongwe.
His Civo counterpart Rashid Mtelera said playing at their backyard is not an added advantage as “records have shown that there isn’t much difference with away record.”
