Fifa/FAM coaching course underway

A total of 36 coaches are taking part in a five-day coaching course jointly organised by the world football governing body FIFA and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
The course, which is taking place at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre, has been organised in preparation for the Fifa/FAM Under-15 National Youth League.
Speaking during the opening ceremony held on Monday, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu said the Under-15 league provides the platform to expose the talent of blossoming players that are in schools.
“For the kids to blossom, they need to be trained by highly-qualified coaches equipped with the technical know-how,” said the FAM president.
“Otherwise, if they are not in the hands of coaches that are not qualified, their performance cannot improve.”
He also said Malawi needs active players that are in primary and secondary schools to ensure continued development of the game.
“FIFA Under-15 League will provide the platform for us to unearth hidden talent that exists in our schools,” he said.
He also hailed FIFA for choosing Malawi as one of the countries for the pilot phase.
