
The 2015 Standard Bank Knockout Cup draw held in Lilongwe on Wednesday evening saw defending champions Silver Strikers being pitted against Mafco in the quarter-finals.
Big Bullets have been drawn against Moyale, Red Lions will face the winner of the preliminary match between Be Forward Wanderers and Mafco while Civo will take on the winner between rookies Dedza Young Soccer and Kamuzu Barracks.
The two preliminary games are slated for next week with Mafco and Wanderers game to be played at Civo Stadium on Thursday 10th September 2015 while on the same day Kamuzu Barracks will host Dedza Young Soccer at Nankhaka. The quarter-finals will take place on September 27 while semi-finals and finals are scheduled for October 17 and 31 respectively.
Standard Bank Malawi has since appealed to the soccer fraternity to make the 10 anniversary of football sponsorship violent-free.
“We have been sponsoring this tournament for nine years and we look forward to the 10th anniversary, we do not want acts of hooliganism to or acts of violence to became a show-stopper as this would curtail our goal of assisting to develop the standard of football in the country,” said the Bank’s head of IT William Nuka during the ceremony.
FAM executive member Jabber Alide, who is also the tournament’s main organising committee, assured the bank of a violent free tournament.
“We cannot overlook the fact that you have developed football in the country through this exciting tournament worthy K46 million. I can assure you that on behalf of FAM president Walter Nyamilandu that this will be a violent free tournament.
“This is also the responsibility to our clubs to make this tournament a success,” said Alide.
Alide also called upon all participating clubs to read and understand regulations government the Standard Bank Cup.
“Most of the violence is a result of misunderstanding of the regulations. I urge club officials to read the regulations and impart it to your followers,” said Alide.
