Flames tumble 13 places

Flames pose before their last game against Uganda

The Flames have tumbled 13 places on the latest Fifa/Coca Cola World rankings from position 95 to 108.
According to revised rankings released on Thursday, the Flames 1-2 defeat to lowly-ranked Zimbabwe’s Warriors (112) had contributed to their fall.
In the Cosafa bloc, the Flames who beat Uganda Cranes in a friendly match on July 6, are fifth.
On the continent, the Flames are now ranked 30th out of 52 countries.
However, Flames caretaker coach Ernest Mtawali said other than induce panic, the drop should fire them up ahead of their second 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland in September.
Algeria (19) are the top ranked team in Africa followed by Cote d’ Ivoire (21). Ghana are third (25) while Tunisia (32) are fourth.
Argentina have dislodged world champions Germany as the top-ranked team in the world. Germany are now second while Belgium are third.
“The vortality of the ranking this month is due in part to the many matches that have been played such as 26 Copa America matches, 99 qualifying matches for World Cup or continental tournaments, and 88 friendlies,” reads part of the report on Fifa website.
