Flames will bounce back—captain

Malawi in action against Zimbabwe

Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo has said the Flames will bounce back from the 1-2 defeat they suffered at the hands of Zimbabwe’s Warriors in their opening match of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Flames skipper also apologised to soccer-loving Malawians for the team’s poor show, in particular his dismal performance.
“It was unfortunate to start the campaign with a loss, especially playing at home, but we will bounce back.
“It was just one of those days when we  couldn’t rise to the occasion. I just want to apologise to the fans for the agony they went through following the loss. We are very sorry, that was unacceptable,” said the DR Congo-based midfielder.
Kamwendo also dismissed talk that he refused to be substituted during the match.
“That will never happen. As a professional, there is no way I can do that,” he said.
Zimbabwe stunned the Flames with a 21st minute strike through Cuthburt Malajila, but barely a minute later, John ‘CJ’ Banda levelled the scores for the Flames.
Then Khama Billiat struck the winner for Zimbabwe that broke the hearts of the home fans with eight minutes to full time.
